haunting

the things i see in dreams far spun
will never leave the aching mind
of nightmares past, relived by night,
of fears and aching terror's bind.

deft words that sting with skillful barb,
a pain still felt by thought's mere glance;
but of the hands that broke the will,
never will trust regain its stance.

by day and night i try to run
on legs still weak from anguished hate.
escape is but a frightened dream
awakened by time's dreadful fate.

but hope stays strong, a silent song,
a wish of better choices then,
but somehow dear, a thought so near
that one day i'll forget again.
