on walking forward

I've been standing in the darkness
for far too long, my gaze
straining, squinting, burning
imaginary lines
into the blackness.
I long for that light of clarity,
the shining pinprick that guides me
from without this darkness.
I've listened, my empty ears
waiting for someone to tell me
where to find it
or how to get there,
but no voice has spoken.
Now it is time for me to move
away from this confusion,
to climb to higher ground
where fog cannot reach
light's embrace.
And so I will walk forward,
slowly, until someone
reaches out their hand
and gently tells me
it is time to stop.
