a paradox of life within mind's view
a paradox of life within mind's view:
a lilting melody of harsh tears strewn
in jeering sounds as laughter peels, a silk
and sullen sound emitted, falling cold
and dark from fear-bit lips as deep thoughts long
in empty solitude. where happy songs
once sung as prayers of light ambrosia's milk,
elixir sweet drank to the shadowed mind, hold
tight, fastened to the rhyme of singing bells;
now only grief, embarrassed hate compels,
an urge to laughter's false, impressioned form
to cry the bitter song of inward scorn.
yet deep within a sigh escapes the pain
and wonders what it means to laugh again.
