seeing in the rain

sometimes i think it takes a downpour
to wash the windows,
to melt away streaks of grime and sadness
with a pelting sting that pierces life with wakening's jolt.

dancing, i spin, letting my face
feel the rain, my eyes closed,
the drops falling, waking,
living as they slide down my cheeks into my mouth.

i dance, i sing, i twirl,
umbrella-less, coat-less,
worry-less.

opening my eyes,
i see
a blurry world of impressionable shapes and sighs,
a clean slate that breathes in the softening pitter-patter of life.

stopping my dance, i smile:
i'm singing in the rain
because i can see again.
