when it hurts to breathe
i hate that i'm drowning,
that life rains and pours
and doesn't stop,
that the floods keep coming,
filling deeper and deeper.
i hate that i can't breathe,
that it hurts to swallow
this burning water.
i can't swallow anymore.
i can't swim.
pulling myself through,
reaching my arms,
stretching my legs
farther than i can grasp.
i can't swim anymore.
i can't feel.
my heart jams into my lungs,
tired, it beats on and on and on
in a drowning timpani
of cascading waves and pulsing falls.
it can't beat anymore.
it hurts to think,
it hurts to feel,
it hurts to pretend.
at least for today,
i don't want to breathe anymore.
that life rains and pours
and doesn't stop,
that the floods keep coming,
filling deeper and deeper.
i hate that i can't breathe,
that it hurts to swallow
this burning water.
i can't swallow anymore.
i can't swim.
pulling myself through,
reaching my arms,
stretching my legs
farther than i can grasp.
i can't swim anymore.
i can't feel.
my heart jams into my lungs,
tired, it beats on and on and on
in a drowning timpani
of cascading waves and pulsing falls.
it can't beat anymore.
it hurts to think,
it hurts to feel,
it hurts to pretend.
at least for today,
i don't want to breathe anymore.
