best christmas presents ever

The best Christmas presents ever are the ones given from the heart. Like a plastic garbage sack scarf. A hand-crocheted afghan. Razors to shave my legs. A monkey. Being with family. A surprise Christmas letter. All of these and so many more gave meaning to my holidays this year. I suppose the most meaningful gift of all is an answer to prayer that I did the right thing.

So, thank you. I learned a lot this Christmas, and though I am still as silly as ever, I hope somewhere, deep inside my heart, I grew just a little bit wiser and kinder. I hope between now and next Christmas I can be even better, not so that I can avoid receiving a lump of coal, but so that I can be better able to always reach out and love others like I should.

A bunch of people have asked me about Sam's birth. So here are more details (and pictures) than anyone ever wanted. Enjoy! (Also, I wrote this a few weeks ago. convos with a prego lady

Truth: pregnancy has made me rather cynical. I try to keep it hidden most of the time (and usually David is the one who bears the brunt of my pent-up sass. He is a champion). I'm not sure why cynicism is a current symptom I am experiencing. It may be due to the fact that I recently read a quote that opened my eyes to all of the nonsensical things people say to fill up space. Here it is, for your own personal enjoyment: "Yesterday at church, a lady took me aside with the express purpose to tell me, 'Don't feel bad. When God closes a door, he opens a window.'"
